Trees

The County of Orange's tree maintenance program consists of road right-of-way trimming, sidewalk clearance trimming and aesthetic trimming of trees within our right-of-way. County areas are divided by grids which are trimmed on a two and a half year cycle.  The service also includes removal of damaged trees and any trees creating a public hazard.

Trimming may consist of the following:

  • Trimming - removal of limbs blocking streetlights, traffic signals, traffic warning signs and site distance issues at intersections.
  • Elevate limbs blocking public sidewalk or traffic vehicle lanes.
  • Removal of dead wood (dead, storm damaged, or broken limbs).
  • Cut down and remove dead trees.
  • Cut down and remove live trees with a valid permit or work order that has been obtained by the property owner.
  • Removal of stumps (grinding).

How do I determine if a tree is County-owned?

County maintained trees grow in the parkway - the strip of land between the sidewalk and the street. If you are unsure if a tree is on County property, call us at (714) 955-0200 and we will either answer your question over the phone or visit the location to determine ownership.

If you think your tree located within County public right of way needs trimming, you may submit a service request or contact the OC Operations & Maintenance office at (714) 955-0200.
