OC Public Works Operations and Maintenance repairs damage to sidewalks, curb and gutters, ADA ramps, drive approaches all within the County of Orange right-of-way on a request basis. This program is designed to prevent trip-and-fall incidents caused by the deterioration of aging sidewalks, lifted sidewalks typically caused by tree roots. It also ensures that curbs and gutters are properly maintained to facilitate effective water flow into the storm drain system. All concrete work is performed to the county standard. There are steps that can be taken prior to the removal or replacement of concrete to prevent trip hazards, such as grinding down the raised area, typically when the displacement is less than one inch. If the concrete has a larger break, the practice is to install a temporary ramp to mitigate the lift, followed by removal and replacement.
