Sign Maintenance

OC Public Works Operations and Maintenance is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of regulatory, warning, guide, and street name signs on the County’s unincorporated streets. Regulatory traffic signs provide information on traffic laws and regulations such as speed limits, stop signs, yield signs, bike lane, no-turn, etc., which must be obeyed for safe driving on streets. Warning signs indicate a potential hazard, obstacle, or condition requiring special attention such as traffic signal ahead, stop ahead, sharp curve ahead, no passing zone, etc. Guide signs provide information to help drivers and pedestrians navigate to specific destinations such as signs showing names of cities, recreational signs such as locations of parks, historical sites or points of interests, milepost markers, etc. Street name signs are used to identify the specific name of streets, not on highways or expressways.

Note: For sign issues to street name signs attached to Traffic Signals, please contact Traffic Engineering at (714) 647-3999. For sign maintenance requests on non-county streets, please contact the representative city for assistance. To report sign issues on Orange County Highways, highway bridges, or Toll Roads, please contact Cal Trans.

If you notice signs needing maintenance on an unincorporated Orange County Street, please submit a service request or contact the OC Operations & Maintenance Office at (714) 955-0200. An inspector will be sent to inspect the area and then coordinate to schedule a crew to make the necessary repairs as needed.
