OC Public Works Operations and Maintenance is responsible for the maintenance of existing traffic markings on the County’s unincorporated streets to provide defined markings for vehicle and pedestrian control. Traffic markings consist of painted markings, Raised Pavement Markers (RPM) and Flexible Delineators. Painted markings are painted lines on the streets that provide guidance and warnings to drivers, indicate lane boundaries (center lines, lane lines, no passing, median, and edge lines), bike lane designations, pedestrian designations (such as crosswalks), and parking restrictions (such as painted curbs). Raised Pavement Markers (RPM) are raised markers that can be either reflective or non-reflective depending on the positioning on the street and the designed application. Reflective RPMs are used to enhance visibility by marking lane boundaries and may be used to mark other important street features. Flexible delineators are flexible post mounted to a base on the ground and are designed to provide guidance, manage vehicle flow, and mark specific areas on streets.
Traffic markings maintenance consists of repainting faded or missing lines and replacing damaged or missing RPM’s and flexible delineators.
If you notice existing traffic markings needing maintenance on an unincorporated Orange County Street, please submit a service request or contact the OC Operations & Maintenance Office at (714) 955-0200. An inspector will be sent to inspect the area and then coordinate to schedule a crew to make the necessary repairs as needed.
Requests for Traffic Signal maintenance or issues, please contact Traffic Engineering at (714) 647-3999. For traffic marking requests on non-county streets, please contact the representative city for assistance.
